Hello …and Welcome Back!

As part of a series of blog posts on having more success in life, I’m sharing with you some of my favorite self-improvement tips from the top personal success speakers in the world.

Currently, we’re looking at the self-improvement tips found in Brian Tracy’s book “21 Success Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires”.

Brian Tracy Quotes and Self-Improvement TipsTracy’s book is based upon the 21 secrets of success that he discovered were used by all self-made millionaires to achieve their financial independence …and his belief that it is possible for us to learn these secrets through practice and repetition.

In my last post, we learned how to set priorities on your activities and concentrate single mindedly on one thing at a time.

Tracy then explained why developing a reputation for speed and dependability is crucial not only for your personal success but, also, for your business success.

“People like doing business with others that are dependable.”

Today, we will be learning about the next 2 success secrets …starting with

Brian Tracy’s Success Secret # 14 of Self-Made Millionaires

Success secret number fourteen is to be prepared to climb from peak to peak in your life and in your career.

Tracy compared our journey to success to a mountain climber.

“Just as a mountain climber, who has reached one peak, must go down into the valley to climb to another peak, your life will be the same.”

Your life and career will be a series of ups and downs.  As they say,

“life is two steps forward and one step back.”

The reality is that problems, challenges, or whatever you want to call them never go away.

The key is to learn how to deal with them …and how to NOT let them deter you from where you’re going.

Success is not a straight line to the top.

It looks more like the stock market …up and down all the time.

However, those that become successful have learned to move quickly from peak to peak …and not stay too long in the valleys.

Develop a long-term perspective.

Take the long view in everything you do.

Plan two, three, four and five years into the future and don’t allow yourself to get onto an emotional roller coaster with the short-term ups and downs of daily life.

When things aren’t going the way you want them to, MOST look at it as sign of defeat.

In reality, all you have to do is push a bit harder

…get a little more creative

…and simply plow through whatever challenges you have.

On the other hand, when the going is good, the top achievers get ALL THEY CAN and do it quickly.

Not accepting the fact that you’ll always be going up and down on the roller coaster of success is a recipe for frustration, stress and anxiety… because you’re setting yourself up with wrong expectations.

Everything won’t always go your way.

Keep reminding yourself that everything in your life goes in cycles and trends.

Be calm, confident, and relaxed with any short term fluctuations in your fortune.

Self-improvement tip:   Make it a habit to think in the long term.  When you have clear goals and plans that you are working on every day, the general trend line of your life will tend to be onward and upward over the years.

Brian Tracy’s Success Secret # 15 of Self-Made Millionaires

Success secret number fifteen is to practice self-discipline in all things.

This is one of the most important qualities for success in life and in becoming a self-made millionaire.

If you can discipline yourself to do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not, your success is virtually guaranteed.

The key to becoming a self-made millionaire is the long-time perspective we talked about above combined with an ability to delay gratification in the short term.

It is your ability to set a long-term financial goal of becoming wealthy and then to discipline yourself, every single day, and with every single expenditure, to do only those things that will guarantee that you ultimately achieve your long-term goal.

Self-discipline means self-mastery, self-control, self-responsibility and self-direction.

The difference between successful people and failures is that successful people make it a habit of doing the things that failures do not like to do.

And what are those things?

The things that failures don’t like to do are the same things that successful people don’t like to do!

But successful people do them anyway because they realize that these are the prices that they must pay for the success they desire.

Successful people are more concerned with pleasing results.

Failures are more concerned with pleasing methods.

Successful people do things that are goal achieving …while unsuccessful people do things that are tension relieving.

Successful people do the things that are hard and necessary and important.

Unsuccessful people, on the other hand, prefer to do the things that are fun and easy and which give immediate enjoyment.

Discipline is the key.

Anyone can go really hard for a day or a week.

Some will even do it for a month.

But most will stop right there.

Winners do whatever needs to be done for as long as it takes

…and that requires discipline.

The good news is that every act of self-discipline strengthens your other disciplines as well.

Every time you practice self-discipline, your self-esteem goes up.

You like and respect yourself even more.

And the more you practice discipline in small things, the more capable you become of the great disciplines needed for the great opportunities, experiences, and challenges of life.

Remember …everything in life is a test.

Every day, every hour and sometimes every minute, you are taking a test of self-mastery, self-control and self-discipline.

The test is to see whether you can make yourself do the things that are most important and stay with them until they are complete.

The test is whether or not you can keep your mind on what you want and where you are going rather than thinking about things you don’t want or problems you have had in the past.

When you pass the test, you move on to the next grade.

And, as long as you keep passing the test, you keep moving toward having success in your life.

The most successful people in anything… sports, business, etc… are NOT always the most talented ones.

They’re the most DISCIPLINED ones.

Self-improvement tip:   Develop the habit of self-discipline in everything you do.  Discipline yourself to do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not …no matter what!

Remember that, when you think the thoughts and do the things that self-made millionaires do, you will begin to get the same results and benefits they do …including great success in life.
